Local Mexican Diplomacy Newsletter June 2021
- Find out about all the international activity carried out by the country's subnational governments.
The Local Diplomacy Studies Commission (CEDL) of the Mexican Center for International Relations (CEMERI), is pleased to bring you a new version of the newsletter on the international actions of Mexican Local Governments, corresponding to the month of June.
Being the middle of the year and the return to normality in local governments after the last midterm elections on June 5, international activity registered an increase in most of the municipalities and states of the country.
To the north of Mexico, in the Northwest region, the interactions between the border governments of our country and the United States of America in terms of migration and health stand out, encouraged by the still existing Covid-19 pandemic; while in the Northeast UN-Habitat recognized a project from San Nicolás de los Garza in Nuevo León for its good practices in terms of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.
Al Oeste, Jalisco and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a collaboration agreement seeking to improve the quality of life of migrants as refugees. In the North Central Region we find actions related to Urban Development, such as the agreement signed by San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to design a 2040 Municipal Development Plan; in the South Center, the municipality of Metepec, State of Mexico, received an international award for its actions in favor of the Environment.
On the other hand, in the south it stands out that in the Southwest Region a twinning between Chiapas and Canada in cultural matters has been planned; while in the Southeast Region, Tourism and Foreign Investment issues prevail, especially as economic reactivation measures.
We hope that the content of this newsletter is of interest to you and that it is useful to you, in addition to thanking you for the attention paid and the support given to this project.
