Dear readers, the Local Diplomacy Studies Commission (CEDL) of the Mexican Center for International Relations (CEMERI) is pleased to present to you the Local Mexican Diplomacy Bulletin for the eleventh month of 2021.
During the month of November, the international actions of local governments in Mexico were mostly focused on issues of the Environment and Foreign Investment. This is due to the fact that COP 26 was held this month, and that different local authorities, after opening the borders between Mexico and the United States for non-essential travel, took the opportunity to meet with their counterparts in the United States.
Above all, the role of Jalisco and the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area stands out, since it received the World Climate Action recognition by the Guadalajara PACMetro during its presentation at COP 26. An outstanding metropolitan effort that promises to bring important benefits to the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area and also Collaborate in efforts to reduce greenhouse gases.
In addition to this, it is also necessary to highlight the actions of other local governments not only in the fight against climate change, but in terms of migration, economic promotion, tourism, and other equally relevant issues and on which continuity has been given to the actions carried out in previous months.
We can mention, for example, that in the municipality of San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, the company Omni 8 Textil completed today its installation in the International Industrial Park (PII) of the city. At the pre-inauguration, the investors and executives of the company who attended: José Castañeda, Carlo Gahilian, Mark Davis and Steve Ajamain, as well as Elvia Amaya; the plant manager, Luis Parra; Arizai Uribe from Human Resources, Víctor Elías and Martha Marínez, among others, were received by municipal government officials.
On the other hand, the government of Guanajuato inaugurated the second edition of the Congress and expo virtual sale of Ceramic Guanajuato "Ceramic Business" 2021, an event that brings together the most important suppliers and artists of Mexican artisan ceramics, with the aim of promoting and revitalizing the marketing and positioning of Guanajuato artisan products. For four consecutive days, more than 30 exhibiting companies from the municipalities of Dolores Hidalgo, Comonfort, Tarandacuao, Pénjamo, Guanajuato and León, who will have the opportunity to do business with purchasing companies from the states of Yucatán, Chiapas, Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur, Baja California Norte, Mexico City, Colima, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Michoacán and Querétaro, as well as North America, South America and Europe
Also, the mayor of Mérida, Renán Barrera Concha, and the director of Economic Development and Tourism, José Luis Martínez Semerena, held a meeting with Marcela Toriello, President of the Board of Directors; Julio Gamero, CEO; Francisco Paul, Commercial Director; and Alberto Petrearse, Public Relations Manager of TAG Airlines to agree on actions that contribute to reactivating the tourist economy through the promotion of the destination and its attractions such as culture, archaeology, security and the wide educational offer of Mérida, which make it a an interesting destination for Central American visitors and an attractive investment hub.
