Local Mexican Diplomacy Newsletter July 2021
- Information bulletin on the international activity of Mexican local governments carried out in July 2021.
Beginning the second half of the year 2021, the Local Diplomacy Studies Commission (CEDL) of the Mexican Center for International Relations (CEMERI) is pleased to present the monthly newsletter on the international activities of Mexican local governments.
On this occasion, the communication activities of the municipalities and federal entities were normalized and there began to be more evidence of the international contacts that are being made in favor of Mexican society, despite the fact that some local governments imposed a ban electoral due to the holding of the referendum and for a few days the informative notes were not available. The foregoing was not an obstacle for the CEDL team to fulfill its commitment to the reading public and promptly report the events described below.
Beginning with the northwest region, we can highlight that the Government of Sonora carried out important activities in the field of education and the return to school by infants in the entity, since the "Anticipa Educando Sonora" program was presented to the representative in Mexico of the Organization World and Pan American Health Organization (WHO-PAHO), who indicated that this model could be replicated in other states of the country and in regions of the Americas if their experience is positive.
In the northeast region, the cultural field stands out when the celebration of the Cross-border Cultures Meeting was announced, with the purpose of uniting the peoples and consolidating the ties of cross-border friendship between Morocco and Mexico.
For the western region, it stands out that the Government of Jalisco and UN Women presented the progress of the Second Chance and Safe Cities and Public Spaces for Women and Girls in Jalisco programs, as a follow-up to the previously signed Memorandum of Understanding.
In the eastern region, international security actions have been continued by the Government of Hidalgo, since for the second consecutive year the International Police Retraining of the FBINAA 2021 Academy associates was carried out.
Regarding the north central region, we can comment that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) recognized the Zacatecas crime prevention strategy as a model to follow and with the possibility of replicating it in other parts of the country.
In the south-central region, it stands out that as part of the activities of the High Level Political Forum of the United Nations Organization (UN), the Government of the State of Mexico, in collaboration with the German Cooperation Agency for Sustainable Development in Mexico (GIZ), held the virtual event "The location of the 2030 Agenda in Mexico: Voluntary local reports for a sustainable recovery".
Regarding the southwestern region, we can comment that the Secretary of Public Security of Oaxaca (SSPO) participated in the International Anti-drug Congress "New challenges in the investigation of illicit drug trafficking and money laundering", held at the National Guard Museum.
Finally, in the southeast region, it should be noted that the Governor of Yucatan and the Secretary of State Tourism Development (Sefotur) officially delivered the affiliation proposal of the Yucatan State Tourism Advisory Council to the World Tourism Organization ( UNWTO).
Without further ado, we hope that this newsletter is of interest and useful to you, while we sincerely appreciate the support that has been given to the project since its inception.
