Mexican Local Diplomacy Newsletter September 2021

- Information bulletin on the international activity of Mexican local governments carried out in September 2021.

Mexican Local Diplomacy Newsletter September 2021

Dear readers, once again, like every month since the beginning of 2021, the Local Diplomacy Studies Commission (CEDL) of the Mexican Center for International Relations (CEMERI) gladly presents the monthly newsletter of the international actions of Mexican local governments, in its September edition.

With the effort of the entire team, and thanking the support of an external collaborator to the organization, it was possible to compile the actions that both municipalities and Mexican federal entities carried out during the ninth month of the current year. However, this edition is a little shorter than the previous ones, due to the fact that the vast majority of the local governments that are monitored have changed their administration or are in the process of doing so, with which their international activity has been reduced.

This is reminiscent of the months of May, June and July, where the electoral process intervened to some degree in international activities. From this space, we wish the new governors every success in their administration, while reminding them that we will be attentive to the actions of an international nature that they carry out in their localities.

Meanwhile, this month we can highlight the following international activities: in the northwestern region, the municipality of Hermosillo received a certificate of commitment to reduce disaster risk and resilience within the campaign of the United Nations Organization "Developing Resilient Cities ” (MCR2030).

In the northeast region, the fourth and last workshop was held for the preparation of the State Program for the Prevention, Attention, Punishment and Eradication of Violence Against Women in collaboration between the government of Coahuila and the UN.

In the western region, the Jalisco Ministry of Culture, hand in hand with the Ministry of Tourism, collaborated with Google through its Google Arts and Culture platform to promote Jalisco culture.

In the eastern region, representatives of the Government of Hidalgo received the visit of some members of the United States Embassy in Mexico, in order to carry out a series of presentations to exchange knowledge, experiences, recommendations and good practices regarding trafficking of people.

In the north-central region, the First Virtual Business Meeting between companies from Israel and León, Guanajuato took place, with the participation of seven companies from León and eight Israelis from various sectors immersed in Industry 4.0, such as artificial intelligence, 3D, software development , among others.

In the south-central region, the state commissioner for Public Safety, José Antonio Ortiz, and executives of the LoJack company signed a collaboration agreement to reduce vehicle theft in the state through radio frequency technology owned by the international company.

In the southwestern region, the municipal president of Tapachula, Rosa Urbina, ratified the commitment of technical and humanitarian collaboration for the care of national and migrant children and adolescents with the representative of UNICEF Mexico, Fernando Carrera.

Finally, in the southeast region, the Governor of Tabasco, Carlos Manuel Merino, met with the Assistant Secretary of the Department of State for Western Hemisphere Programs of the United States Government, Heide Fulton, to discuss the fight for security and peace in the region

Without further ado for the moment, the CEDL team hopes that this document will be of interest to you, and thanks you for the support received for this project.
